View full detailsWhy Choose Porcelain Pavers for Outdoor Spaces
Porcelain pavers combine the beauty of natural stone or wood with the unmatched durability of high-fired porcelain. At 2 cm (¾ inch) thick, these pavers are built to handle vehicular traffic, freeze-thaw cycles, and years of outdoor exposure without cracking, fading, or staining.
Key Advantages Over Other Pavers
Unlike concrete pavers, porcelain will not fade or lose color over time. Compared to natural stone pavers like travertine or limestone, porcelain pavers are virtually non-porous - they won't absorb water, oil, or stains, and they resist mold and algae growth. Porcelain also maintains a more consistent thickness and color, simplifying installation.
Installation Methods
Porcelain pavers offer flexible installation. They can be laid over compacted gravel with sand joints (pedestal-free), set on adjustable pedestal systems for rooftop decks and elevated patios, or mortar-set over a concrete slab. The pedestal method allows for drainage beneath the surface and easy access to utilities.
Popular Styles
Our porcelain pavers come in wood-look, stone-look, and cement-look finishes. Stone-look pavers that replicate travertine, slate, or limestone are the most popular for patios. Wood-look porcelain planks bring warmth to outdoor dining areas without the rot and splinter risk of real wood decking.
Pool Deck Porcelain Pavers
Porcelain pavers are ideal for pool decks. They are slip-resistant when wet, cool underfoot compared to dark natural stone, and impervious to chlorine and salt water. The non-porous surface prevents algae growth and makes cleaning simple.
Are porcelain pavers better than concrete pavers?
Porcelain pavers offer several advantages over concrete: they are more durable, fade-resistant, stain-proof, and frost-proof. Concrete pavers can absorb water, grow mold, and lose color over time. Porcelain pavers cost more upfront but require virtually no maintenance and retain their appearance for decades.
Can porcelain pavers be installed over grass or gravel?
Yes. Porcelain pavers can be dry-laid over a compacted gravel base with polymeric sand joints. This is one of the most popular installation methods for patios and walkways. For a stable surface, prepare a proper gravel base with adequate compaction. Porcelain pavers can also be set on pedestal systems or mortar-bonded to concrete.
Do porcelain pavers get hot in the sun?
Porcelain pavers stay cooler than dark natural stone or concrete pavers. Light-colored porcelain reflects more heat, making it comfortable for bare feet around pools. While any paver absorbs some heat on hot days, porcelain is generally a more comfortable option for pool decks and patios than darker materials.
How thick are porcelain pavers?
Standard porcelain pavers are 2 cm (approximately ¾ inch) thick. This is significantly thicker than interior porcelain tile (typically 9-10 mm) and provides the structural strength needed for outdoor installation over gravel or on pedestals. The added thickness also makes them suitable for vehicular traffic in driveways.
